Literally translated, Donauwelle means "Danube Wave"

Danube Wave Cake

Donauwelle

7/8 cup butter

1 cup sugar

4 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 cups flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

2 tablespoons kakao

***********************

2 jars pitted sour cherries (24oz. each)

***********************

1 package vanilla pudding

2 cups cold milk

***********************

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels

1/4 cup confectioner sugar

1/4 hot water

Beat together the butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Add vanilla.

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour and baking powder and add to the wet mixture.

Spread 2/3 of the dough onto a greased (17.25 x 11.5 x 1 inch) pan. Add the kakao to the remaining mixture and beat briefly. Spread the chocolate dough on top of the vanilla dough.

Drain cherries and pat dry. Place them on top of the chocolate dough. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Let cool.

Prepare the vanilla pudding according to the package. (I used one, which needed 2 cups of cold milk added.) Spread on top of the cooled cake.

Put the chocolate morsels and confectioners sugar in a bowl. Add the hot water. Microwave for a couple of seconds. Continue to stir the mixture until smooth. Drizzle the chocolate mixture back and forth on top of the pudding.

Place in a cool space or in the refridgerator for the chocolate to harden.
