Applesauce is used to accompany meals, such as potato pancakes, Kaiserschmarrn and/or pork dishes. Once you've tried homemade apple sauce, you will never want to buy store-bought apple sauce anymore.
4 apples (peeled, cored and chopped)
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons white wine
One piece of lemon peel
Juice of half a lemon
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wash the apples, peel, core and chop into bite-size pieces. Sprinkle chopped apples with lemon juice to avoid discoloration. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan above medium heat. Cover and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until apples are soft. Stir occasionally.
Remove from burner, remove lemon peel, and mash apples with a fork or potato masher. Sprinkle cinnamon on top as garnish.
